The bowl season is over and it is time to crown the champion of our inaugural College Fantasy Bowl Challenge. Team x98 scored 287.56 in a tight race that came down the final games of the postseason.
The tipping point was the GMAC Bowl on Jan. 6. Huskers98 held a slim 11 point lead over our eventual champ. Team x98 had Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour left to go. A poor start by LeFevour made us think for a moment that Huskers98 may just hold on. But thanks to a late, second half rally by the CMU legend our champ pulled away for good.
I have to admit, it brings a smile to my face to see two Spartans on his winning roster.
Because we hate to see Huskers98 come so close and walk away empty handed we've decided to give him a $25 gift card.
The highest finisher from the CFFinsider staff? The Computer of course. It checks in at #11. Ranking Shawnbrey McNeal (11th) ahead of Darius Marshall (10th) would have led our code-chugging colleague to a second place finish.
We've also decided to give a prize to the team with the best name and that award goes to Amish Rack Fight. There were a few others that were worthy of the award, but this name made us giggle every time we saw it on the leaderboard. So another $25 gift card goes Amish Rake Fight's way.
Congratulations to all our winners and we'll do it again next year! Stick around in the off-season, our Conference Look Aheads are taking shape and signing day is right around the corner. Before you know it we'll be talking spring practice and then summer will be here!
