Spring practice has begun down south. Miami and Duke were the first return to the practice field and have already taken a pause! With the rest of the schools getting ready kick things off as well, we take a look at the top question surrounding each team.
Boston College
Quarterback controversy brewing in Chestnut Hill?
Gut: Yes and I like Chase Rettig to start a youth movement under center for the Eagles.
Clemson
Will Kyle Parker still be playing football in September?
Gut: No. Parker is hitting .396 with 6 HRs and 16 RBI through 14 games. I may be out on a limb, be he has taken his last snap at Clemson
Duke
Is there any hope for the Devils running game?
Gut: Maybe. Freshman Josh Snead is making noise, but Duke will probably be forced to pass often again in 2010.
Florida State
Is there a breakout performer on this offense?
Gut: No. Like their conference rival to the south, the Noles have too much depth. Jarmon Fortson has the best chance.
Georgia Tech
Can the Jackets replace Demaryius Thomas?
Gut: No. But Stephen Hill has the best chance to become relevant.
Maryland
Can Jamarr Robinson lead a turnaround in College Park?
Gut: Yes, Robinson’s mobility will help offset problems along the o-line and the talent at the skill positions takes the Terps bowling.
Miami (Fl)
More committees at running back and wide receiver?
Gut: Unfortunately, yes. Three or four RBs will see enough carries and five WRs will continue to negate each other.
North Carolina
When will we see Bryn Renner?
Gut: September, but not meaningfully. UNC’s defense has them in win now mode, and T.J. Yates will manage this offense.
North Carolina State
Any worries over Russell Wilson choosing baseball?
Gut: No. It’s early, but Wilson hasn’t started any of the Pack’s first seven games and a minor league career will still be an option down the road.
Virginia
Who starts at quarterback?
Gut: Week One – Mark Verica. But Miles Gooch and early enrollee Mike Strauss will all start before December.
Virginia Tech
How many carries will Darren Evans steal from Ryan Williams?
Gut: Enough to drive Williams owners crazy. Sound familiar?
Wake Forest
Who replaces Riley Skinner?
Gut: I’ll take Brendan Cross, but does it really matter? The Deacs QB shouldn’t be on your squad.
