Week 6 of the 2011 season is upon us which means teams are going to be hitting the meat of their conference schedule. A good fantasy owner has to be aware how the remaining schedule is going to affect his players. Generally speaking, defense is optional in mid-major conferences, while the Big Ten and the SEC annually dominate defensively. This is great news for the likes of Houston and Hawaii in the college football world, teams who love to put up video game stats against their conference brethren, but you may want to think twice about relying on teams like Nebraska or Tennessee who have both produced some fantasy studs so far this season.
I’m a huge geek at heart, and as sad as it may sound, I actually enjoy doing some good ole fashion number crunching. I compiled some information that can be very helpful in spotting some potential fantasy heroes for the remainder of the season. Here are the conferences with the easiest schedule remaining. Note that these numbers are the averages of the teams remaining on their schedule.

There isn’t anything shocking here, as the stats back up the stereotypes we are used to seeing. One thing that should stand out to you is the dominance the Big East has had stopping the run, and the complete inability to stop the pass. This conference overview is helpful, but let’s dig deeper and look at specific teams whose ease or difficulty in their remaining schedule stands out. This is where we can really spot some information that you can use to your advantage when deciding on a waiver pickup or in a potential trade.
