Stat Corner: 2012 Returning Production

As we move into the 2012 season, we've begun crunching numbers in prep for our 2012 projections. One of the interesting data sets to look at is returning production. Speciically we are looking at which teams return the most fantasy production from 2011.

See the tables below. I've sorted the data in three different ways (data is the same in each), as each tells us something different.

The first table shows who returns (or loses) the most in terms of percentage. Conventional wisdom would suggest that teams that return a high percentage should continue to grow in 2012. This is a good spot to look for breakout players.

The second table looks at total returning point production. Percentages are nice, but not all teams return a high rate of fantasy options.

Lastly, I've sorted the data by 2011 production. As you can see there are a number of high-octane fantasy offenses that need to replace a large amount of offensive production. Which opens up a great opportunity to mine for fresh talent, especially for keeper league owners.

I'll let the data speak for itself as there are a number of conclusions that could be drawn.

2011 = total fantasy pts from 2011    2012 = fantasy pts from returning players     % = percent fantasy production returning
