It has been less than a week since our last Spring Fling, but with all the spring games and scrimmage action over the weekend, our player news updates are quickly making their way off the front page. So here is a quick recap of the top items from the last few days so you don't have to go searching.
Spring Games, Scrimmages and Practice Reports
Arkansas: QB Ryan Mallett was 11-of-25 passing for 164 yards with two touchdowns.
Arizona: QB Nick Foles was 14-of-18 for 156 and a touchdown in Saturday's scrimmage. Matt Scott 15-of-23 for 137 and a score. There has been no indication from coach Mike Stoops as to a leader between the two.
Auburn: QBs Kodi Burns and Neil Caudle have been splitting first team reps so far this spring. Burns has been the first under center. Chris Todd is still nursing his shoulder and not currently in the mix.
Clemson & Miami: Both might want to start being concerned about their defenses.
Colorado State: The Rams rotated Grant Stucker and Jon Eastman at QB. WR Dion Morton caught two long TD passes.
Florida: Urban Meyer called wide receiver, fullback and offensive line the "weak points" of the team.
Florida State: RBs Jermaine Thomas and Ty Jones continue to look good for the Seminoles.
Houston: Nothing earth shattering, WR Tyron Carrier caught seven passes for 114 yards. Redshirt freshman WRs Gino Collins and Ronnie Williams caught a TD a piece working with the second unit.
Louisiana-Monroe: Tough to gauge their scrimmage. The offense scored eight times, but five of those came in goal line situations. TE Luke Aubrey had five catches, three for scores.
LSU: Defense dominated LSU's scrimmage on Saturday. Jordan Jefferson still leads the QB race but true freshman Russell Shepard will see the ball one way or another next fall. He was "untouchable" playing QB in Saturday's scrimmage.
Mississippi State: From the Bulldogs athletic site: "Mississippi State's revamped spread offense struggled through most of its first day in full pads here on Saturday, but head coach Dan Mullen's offensive unit excelled in a goal line period to close practice and claim a 'win' in the 24-period workout."
North Carolina: RB Jamal Womble lead all rushers with 50 yards on seven carries in North Carolina's scrimmage on Saturday.
Penn State: LB Sean Lee is back at practice after blowing out his knee
Pittsburgh: WR Jonathan Baldwin scored on catches of 57 and 16 yards in Saturday's scrimmage. Baldwin finished the day with three catches for 85 yards.
Rice: The Owls concluded their spring drills with QB Nick Fanuzzi throwing for three touchdowns in the spring game.
South Carolina: True freshman RB Jarvis Giles rushed for 80 yards on 12 carries, including runs of 16, 15 and 12 yards. WR Tori Gurley caught three passes for 123 yards, including touchdown receptions of 56 and 28 yards.
Tennessee: New coach Lane Kiffin has been impressed by QB Jonathan Crompton and RB Montario Hardesty. All the buzz last week was on the signing of RB Bryce Brown, but Hardesty won't go down without a fight.
UAB: The offense led by QB Joe Webb lit up the Blazer's defense.
USC True freshman Matt Barkley is very much in the QB race. Aaron Corp's name seems to be the first mentioned in every report however.
West Virginia: The Mountaineers are thin at RB with only two scholarship backs on the roster: Noel Devine and Mark Rodgers.
Suspensions, Injuries and Position Battles
WR Dezmon Briscoe, Kansas: Suspended. Our best guess would be academics.
WR Deon Murphy, Kansas State: No longer with the team. Looks like he and coach Bill Snyder didn't get along.
WR McCay Jacobson, BYU: Nursing a hamstring injury, he may be able to practice next week.
RB LeGarrette Blount, Oregon: Reinstated
RB LaMichael James, Oregon: A name to file away, especially in keeper leagues.
RB DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma: Rehab is going well and Murray is bulking up for 2009.
RB Jonathan Dwyer, Georgia Tech: Dwyer has been slowed by a hamstring injury. Anthony Allen saw time at B-back (Dwyer's position) in his absence. Neat.
RB Charles Clay, Tulsa: Will get a look at the feature back. Music to our ears.
RB Joe McKnight, USC: Nearly recovered from the four dislocated toes he suffered in the Rose Bowl. He's close to being cleared to practice.
RB Cody Johnson, Texas: Out with a hami.
RB Phillip Tanner, Middle Tennessee State: See above.
WR Kerry Meier, Kansas: Still seeing time at backup quarterback. I suspect that will come to an end sometime in August.
WR Vidal Hazelton, USC: The Bearcats are applying for immediately eligibility for the USC transfer. I guess they enjoy butting heads with the NCAA.
WRs Michael Floyd and Duval Kamara, Notre Dame: Held out of Saturday's scrimmage with leg injuries.
WR Dwight Jones, North Carolina: A name to remember.
TE Jonathan Massey, Southern Miss: See above.
TE Kyle Adams, Purdue: Back at practice after missing nearly all of last year with a knee injury.
TE Blake Ayles, USC: Out for spring as he recovers from knee surgery.
TE Tony Moeaki, Iowa: Still battling a foot injury, out for the spring
QB MarQueis Gray, Minnesota: Adam Weber (shoulder surgery) better get healthy soon. The more snaps Gray gets, the more Weber will be looking over his shoulder this fall.
QBs Justin Siller and Joey Elliot, Purdue: Will battle for the starting spot this spring.
QB Nick Sheridan, Michigan: Broke his leg last week, Tate Forcier ran with the first team in Saturday's scrimmage.
