2010 Champs: CBS Sports

December 02, 2010

I hope everyone had a good holiday, I know Mike Hurcomb at CBS Sports did!

Yep, CBS Sports ran the table on this league. A very, very impressive 10-0 regular season record, followed by a two-game playoff run and a championship game 189.5 - 155.70 win over the runner-up Fantasy Football Brothers. To make his record even more impressive, this is Mike's second FCFI championship in three years.

Fantasy College Football Invitational
  2010: CBS Sports (M. Hurcomb)
2009: College Football Geek (T. DeVries)
  2008: CBS Sports (M. Hurcomb)
2007: Pro Fantasy Sports (S. Lassan)
  2006: RotoWire (J. Erickson)
2005: Fantasy College Blitz (D. Smith)

Athlon Experts League
  2009: Athlon (B. Gall)
2008: College Fantasy Football Insider (A. Esselink)

Fantasy Oasis Experts League
2009: College Football Geek (J. Arpasi)

Thanks to Athlon Fantasy Sports (Nate Karp) for hosting the league. The system ran smooooth.
Thanks in advance to FantasyTrophies.com (Dave Mitri) for supplying this year's trophy: The Armchair Mini. Mike, please let me know where to send it!
And thanks to all of you guys for playing. I think we had a pretty competitive league this year in terms of waivers and moves (but the trash talk is oh so tame around here).
Enjoy the rest of 2010 and here's to more success for the fantasy college football market!

The 2010 Playoffs are Here!

November 09, 2010

Commish Commentary
----------------------------------
Before I start talking about playoffs, I have to make mention of the weirdness that is College Football News in Week 10. A fractured draft. Ending the year with a 2-8 record. A grand total of THREE transactions on the waiver wire. The record for LOWEST score of the week at 51.45...and then exploding during Week 10 to earn the highest single-week score of the entire season with 216.35 points. Imagine if this squad had actually been managed all year!

As for some teams that were managed all year: The returning champs at CFGeek won't be able to defend last year's title in the playoffs. Joining them will be CFFInsiderFCBlitz ICFNewsFFOasisSI.comFanballNF PostPigskin AddictionSportsBuffOpenSports, and Sports Overload. Case Keenum, Dwight Dasher, and draft-dodging were all to blame.

Now, for the playoff teams: CBS SportsAthlon SportsRotoWireFF BrosFCBlitz IIFF ToolboxRotoWorld, and Athlon Fantasy are in the postseason and have a shot at the title.

Kudos, of course, go out to CBS Sports for cleaning their regular season slate at 10-0 and to FCBlitz II for taking a draft dump roster and making it a contender overnight.

The Regular Season MVP goes to Cam Newton with 376.40 Points on the year for RotoWorld. Newton, by the way, was never the top Player of the Week! Denard Robinson (#2 overall) had the most POTW titles with three.

Best of luck to the playoff teams!

Playoff Predictions
----------------------
Athlon Sports @ FF Brothers: Lassan has been on the mark all year. It doesn't end this week.

CBS Sports @ Athlon Fantasy: No way am I betting against the undefeated. Thanks for hosting, Nate!

RotoWire FF Toolbox: The 'Box has averaged a good 40 PPG higher than the 'Wire. Omar's dead, yo.

FCBlitz II @ RotoWorld: Urban Meyer cannot stop RotoWorld's Cam Newton and the 30+ PPG over FCBII will end the miracle year.

2010 Week 8 Review

October 28, 2010

Commish Commentary
----------------------------------
The Week 8 Game of the Week was just that...Undefeated CBS took on an improving CFFInsider squad and pretty much knocked the Insiders out of the race for good with a 179-174.85 win.

College Football News may have been eliminated from the playoffs, but they did get their first win of the season to avoid The Bagel. Fantasy Football Oasis gets the "Lost to CFNews" tag for the year.
Fantasy Football Brothers and CFGeek have started sudden slides which need to stop to keep post-season hopes alive.
This is probably the deciding week for most teams for playoff entry or elimination. The week started early with the Boise State Tuesday Night thing, so get the rest of your rosters set!

Good luck with Week 9!

2010 Week 7 Review

October 19, 2010

Commish Commentary
----------------------------------

Only three more weeks to go before we reach the playoffs. The college season goes by quick.

Pigskin Addiction and FCB I have really hit the skids. I don't think these guys are getting back to .500 this year.

CBS Sports just looks unstoppable right now and the Athlon Sports teams are right behind them.

FCBlitz II is still figuring out diapers, so look for a rebound in Week 9.

If you are making a move to get a clutch win, I'd say this is the week to do it.

Good luck with Week 8!

2010 Week 5 Review

FCFI: 2010 Week Five in Review

Commish Commentary
This week, I'm turning things around and getting the Week 5 review out to you much sooner than a 1/2 hour before Week 6 starts.

Fantasy Football Oasis finally entered the win column with a beat-down over CFFInsider, who are on the phone to Middle Tennessee as we speak.

The Leach Division is top-heavy. CBS (5-0), FF Bros (5-0), and Athlon Sports (4-1, 810.65 PF) are tearing up the league...and no one else has a winning record.

The Kiffin is a picture of parity. Eight teams are 3-2 or 2-3. Only FF Toolbox is ahead of the group by a game.

Fantasy College Blitz I did not deal well with early success and have slid with a three-loss streak.

National Football Post started One QB - Blaine Gabbert (BYE), Dion Lewis (Hurt), One WR, No Defense, and No Kicker.

College Football News
started One WR and No Defense.

These guys are doing everything they can to get back on track.

Picking early does not seem to have been an advantage right now:

2010 Draft Slots
1. SportsBuff (2-3)
2. CFGeek (2-3)
3. CFFInsider (2-3)
4. Pigskin Addict (2-3)

Good luck with Week 6. Let me know if you post any FCFI write-ups of your own.

2010 Week 4 Review

FCFI: 2010 Week Four in Review

Commish Commentary

Yeah, I was slack for this late Week 4 Review. Well, to you guys, that is...not to the people in this world that pay me to code stuff...well, that's probably subjective, too...

The top players of the last three weeks have been the dual-threat QBs. Just in time for Vick to make running QBs chic again in both leagues.

The Cush Schedule Award goes to Fantasy Football Brothers (League Low 441.30 Point Against), who are using it wisely and building up a nice record.

The Hard Luck Schedule Award goes to SI.com (League High 635.70 Points For), who are suffering greatly.

Athlon Sports is tearing up the scoreboard with a 646.15 total thus far...T. Pryor and Demarco Murray are nice ones to have right now.

Word on the street is that Tommy Tubs is messing with the playbook. Time to short your Texas Tech investments, pronto.

I don't always stay in swanky hotels, but when I do, I prefer to hang with Marvin Austin's friends.

If you have any FCFI Reviews to promote, please send me your links...Good luck for Week 5.

2010 Week 3 Review

September 21, 2010 FCFI: 2010 Week 3 Review

Commish Commentary
----------------------------------
As we transition from Week 3 to Week 4, teams are hammering the waiver wire to get their rosters back on track.

I wonder if those Fantasy Sports Insurance folks are willing to cover any Houston Cougar QBs for the rest of the year?

The Week 1 Player of the Week, Kenjon Barner, was dropped by CFGeek after the return of LaMichael James from suspension. You can only hope for another round of Oregon Starting Player Shenanigans to give Barner another shot at the starting job. It's ok, though, since the Geek had the Week 3 leader in Kaepernick, as well.

As soon as I give Fantasy College Blitz I a round of compliments, they lay an egg with the lowest score of the week. Sorry for the bad karma, Drew.

OpenSports and Rotowire got their first wins for the season.

College Football News is bound and determined to prove that the waiver wire is for sissies.

If you have any FCFI Reviews to promote, please send me your links...Good luck for Week 4.

2010 Week 2 Review

September 15, 2010

Commish Commentary

----------------------------------

We come out of Week 2 with the early knowledge that Vince Mullins is all giggly inside. His Fantasy College Blitz II squad is waxing ya'll and he didn't even draft. Of course, this either means that drafting is overrated or that the waiver wire is 10X more valuable a week closer to the regular season. Fantasy Football Oasis, however, may disagree with that sentiment.

But then you look at the number two squad (thus far) being Fantasy College Blitz I (Drew Smith) and you have to wonder what these guys are smoking in Orlando that makes all luck be good luck.

One thing is for sure, early picks are falling fast with #1 Case Keenum out due to brain trauma and #3 Dwight Dasher out for apparently having no brain to begin with. #4 Donald Buckram and his knee seem to finally be getting along (allegedly).

The first game of Week 3 is Thursday with CIN @ NCST - Can someone get an interview with Pead's knee, please?

Remember: The Athlon system may allow you to pick up players after Thurs/Friday games and before Saturday games, but you shouldn't do it. I'll reverse those moves when/if they happen. All players go through waivers after they play. Period.

If you have any FCFI Reviews to promote, please send me your links...Good luck for Week 3.

2010 Week 1 Review

September 07, 2010

Commish Commentary

We finished Week One with a pretty darn good Monday Night Football game between Boise State and VA Tech. You can't even call Bronco wins upsets anymore; although good luck trying to figure out consistent fantasy value on that squad outside Kellen Moore. Let the BCS complaining begin in earnest!

Nothing is conclusive right now, except that losing 16+ players to an NCAA investigation doesn't help you win your opener, so I won't be digging on folks after just one week. Still, FFOasis, OpenSports, CFNews, and NFPost are needing to make some roster moves this morning.

The first games of Week 2 are CMCH @ Temple and Auburn @ Miss State on Thurs, Sept 9.

If you have any FCFI Reviews to promote, please send me your links!

Player of the Week

Week 1 - Kenjon Barner, RB, ORE (CFG) 17-147-4 Rush, 1-60-1 Rec, 50.70 PTS - Enter the Oregon RBBC!

Highs and Lows

High Scorer: Athlon Sports (Lassan) 180.00 -- Demarco Murray and Ronald Johnson on board

Low Scorer: Fantasy Football Oasis 100.35 -- The Folly of the Missed Draft

Other Notables

College Football Geek was right behind the leader with 179.10 PF in their quest to defend the title. Pigskin Addiction was right behind the Geek at 179.05 PF.

Fantasy College Blitz II (Recovery Mode) scored 147.25, grabbed a Week 1 win, and finished better than 8 other teams.

Despite losing their #1 pick (Dwight Dasher) and #4 Pick (Derrick Washington), CFFInsider kept their heads above water. It did not make for a clean pre-game Yammer discussion, however.

The new home for the FCFI is up!

May 11, 2010

The Fantasy College Football Invitational has launched a new site to track its standings, history, schedules, and news for the 2010 season and beyond.

In addition, the FCFI will use this space to promote the league, its competitor teams/firms, and the sponsors of the league as much as it can.

Feel free to visit and bookmark the home page and subscribe to the RSS feed to follow the FCFI Blog as the season gets closer.

We have a lot of great firms and experienced competitors involved for 2010, so we think it will be a great league.

The FCFI site link follows: http://www.collegefantasyfootballinsider.com/fcfi

FCFI landing page has launched

May 10, 2010

We've put in a few hours of work and established a landing page for the FCFI (with hosting donated by CFFInsider). This will be an online place for the public to view league standings, game results, history, rules, and the blog feed.

While I'll be posting league information at this specific site, we hope all of the league competitors feel free to promote the league data on their own websites, as well. In other words, nothing about the league data and discussion is exclusive to this site.

We'll keep working closer to the season and make  improvements to promote league competitors and sponsors with profiles, links, and blog posts.

Feel free to visit and bookmark the home page and subscribe to the RSS feed to follow the FCFI Blog as the season gets closer.

We have a lot of great firms and experienced competitors involved for 2010, so we think it will continue to be a great league.

The FCFI site link follows: http://www.collegefantasyfootballinsider.com/fcfi

Note: The league management system will still be donated by Athlon Sports, these pages have been established for marketing and networking purposes.

Sponsors Announced for 2010

March 30, 2010

The FCFI has found five great firms that will donate their fantasy sports related services for the 2010 season. Please visit the websites of these sponsors and consider using their services for your own leagues.

FCFI Gets Organized for 2010

March 15, 2010

Last year, the college fantasy football market had three "Expert Leagues" run by Fantasy College Blitz, Fantasy Oasis, and Athlon Sports. Recently, an effort began to consolidate the multiple expert leagues into one--with the idea that the leaders in our market will save time competing in one place, which will provide a better overall experience for the expert league and its participants. Two good examples of this goal are fantasy baseball's Tout Wars and fantasy pro football's FanExFootball, among others.

Steve Lassan of Athlon Sports, Vince Mullins of Fantasy College Blitz, and Alex Esselink of College Fantasy Football Insider got together and organized the league rules and summary, which are very similar to past leagues. They also chose to retain the name Fantasy College Football Invitational (FCFI) for the league due to its longer heritage in the market.
