USC freshman safety Jawanza Starling got a big hit over the weekend. No it wasn't during spring practice, it was on the baseball diamond where he is an outfielder. He singled as a pinch hitter to collect his first hit as a collegian against New Mexico State.
Both safetey spots are up for grabs at USC, and it will be interesting to see if the time spent on the diamond will hurt him claim one of those spots. Starling is the first football player to play baseball at USC since 2005.
