Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert is "ahead" of schedule according to coach Mack Brown.
Gilbert got a crash course in being the Longhorns' starting quarterback after being thrown into the fire in the National Championship game last January. Opening up against Rice at Reliant Stadium should be a piece of cake for Gilbert.
