Heading into the spring, D.J. Shoemate was the logical choice to fill the cleats of Jordan Todman but he had a long way to go in order to prove to the new coaching staff that he was capable of being the featured ball carrier. Well according to the Hartford Courant, Shoemate has come a long way. "Shoemate has really come a long way and has certainly separated himself from the pack he's with this spring. When the Huskies broke out into scrimmaging early, Shoemate got the call. He took the feed ran up and took a peek inside and bounced it outside for about 33 yeards. Real nice looking carry. He ran hard and smart all day", writes Desmond Conner.
If Shoemate continues to pull away from the pack, he could be an interesting sleeper option this season.
