Derek Thompson looking to prove himself

North Texas quarterback Derek Thompson had the chance to be the starter last season when Nathan Tune went down with a dislocated hip but his time in the spotlight was short lived as he broke his leg in the very same game.  This offseason Thompson is looking to prove to the new coaching staff that he can be the full time starter.  Head coach Dan McCarney says "Derek has a big arm, but he has some escape-ability and mobility."

Thompson is by no means the favorite to win the job so he will indeed have to prove himself to coach McCarney.  However, if he does win the job, he will not be expected to be a gamechanger as he will have the luxury of handing off to Lance Dunbar.
