After a heated battle with Brock Mansion for the starting job, Zach Maynard has been officially named the starting quarterback at Cal. Head coach Jeff Tedford states that "Zach showed a tremendous amount of upside during spring practice and is the quarterback that gives us the best opportunity to win football games."
Maynard has some good starting experience from Buffalo and also provides the Golden Bears a running threat. Look for Maynard to hook up with half-brother Keenan Allen more than a few times this year.
