Second-year UNLV coach Bobby Hauck got through the MWC media day without naming a starting quarterback. Hauck from sophomore Caleb Herring, who saw playing time a year ago, or newcomers in junior college transfer Sean Reilly and freshmen Nick Sherry and Taylor Barnhill.

Last year, Omar Clayton and Mike Clausen jousted through the season for the starting job. It appears Hauck is content to let this year's battle play out to see if Herring is the guy, or if one of the youngsters is where he wants to build. This battle figures to last well into fall camp -- and perhaps beyond.
