USF added a player to their roster on Friday, announcing that tight end Michael McFarland had joined the team. McFarland arrives at USF via Florida, where he sat out the 2010 season as a redshirt. The school is looking into applying for a hardship waiver (family illness) that would allow McFarland to play this season instead of having to sit out.
McFarland joins WR Chris Dunkley (who will sit out this season) as players who have made the move from Gainesville to Tampa. If McFarland is able to play he'd add depth to the tight end position, with Andreas Shields (5 catches, 74 yards in 2010) being the leader of the pack.
