True freshman Harvey Langi is battling JC transfer John White IV and rugby star Thretton Palamo for the starting running back spot for Utah. The Utes lost Eddie Wide and Matt Asiata, then saw heir-apparent Sausan Shakerin forced to give up football. That left nothing but newcomers to fight for a piece of the running back pie.
So far, none of the backs have jumped to a lead on the depth chart. Coach Kyle Whittingham said he would be comfortable rotating the three, looking for a hot hand, on a game by game basis until things sort themselves out. There is still plenty of camp for one of these guys to find a groove. Langi graduated early from high school and took part in spring practice.
