Over the years at West Virginia unheralded players have stepped up in the spring, only to retreat into the background once fall hits. Wide receiver Ryan Nehlen, grandson of legendary WVU coach Don Nehlen, hopes to avoid such a fate this year. Nehlen entered fall camp 4th on the depth chart at wide receiver and stands to see playing time this season.
To say the least there will be plenty of opportunities to make plays in Dana Holgorsen's system, and Nehlen could be one of the players set to capitalize. Last season 10 Oklahoma State receivers caught at least ten passes in Holgorsen's system, and 12 Houston receivers accomplished the feat in 2009.
