Frosh Michael Holmes emerging

Virgina Tech running back Michael Holmes had 54 yards on 11 carries in his first real action in maroon and orange today.

Quite a debut for the rookie, who was at least a day late to practice this summer due to NCAA Clearinghouse issues. As much as we love David Wilson, he can't carry every ball for VT, and the Hokies' other backs struggled today.  Tony Gregory is healthy, but dropped a pass and lost some yards in limited touches today.  Josh Oglesby is a vulture candidate, but not a serious threat for major yardage. Holmes has good size, and while he may not open fall as the second back here, redshirting would also be a surprise.  He's a great late round pick in ACC heavy leagues.  And just imagine his value should David Wilson go down, or leave early.
