While Thursday's intrasquad scrimmage was closed to the public and media, many around the UConn program expected that day to provide some separation in the crowded quarterback competition. In Saturday's open practice that may have been the case, with freshman Michael Nebrich looking the better of the candidates.
By no means is the competition over with Michael Box, Scott McCummings and Johnny McEntee still lurking. But the true freshman seems to have impressed by accounts, so he could get the first snap against Fordham if this continues.
