SMU coach June Jones has named J.J. McDermott the starting quarterback for Saturday's contest against UTEP. Jones said that Kyle Padron will also play.

Surprising to see Jones make a quick decision to bench last year's starter, who threw for over 3800 yards and 31 scores. Sounds like this week's game will be a tryout for both quarterbacks, and the way McDermott played last week, he should have no trouble with the Miners.
