With receivers leaving the program or getting hurt, someone had to emerge to catch passes for San Diego State. As it turned out, tight end Gavin Escobar would be the man -- even with a broken hand late in the season.
Escobar was a consistent performer for the Aztecs and quarterback Ryan Lindley, even at the end of the season when he wore a protective cast. A sophomore, he could be a very good receiving tight end by the time his career is finished at SDSU.
