According to an Associated Press report, Arkansas will hire John L. Smith as their interim head coach for the 2012 season. Update: It's official.
Before you double check that it is indeed April 23rd and not April 1st, Smith is familiar with the Razorbacks' staff and players. Smith coached the Razorbacks' special teams from 2009-2011 and he and former head coach Bobby Petrino have a long history of working together. Smith is also a veteran with head coaching experience at four different schools. You have to assume this is just a stop gap for 2012. But as a Michigan State alum, I can't help but chuckle. At least Razorbacks' games just got a little more exciting...
